EPICURE HPC in ARM Architecture Hackathon

The EPICURE HPC in ARM Architecture Hackathon focused on using HPC in CPUs with the ARM architecture, and it took place at the INESC TEC’s hub at the University of Minho, Braga, Portugal, 4-7 February 2025.

The event included lectures by experts on using ARM architecture in the context of HPC and practical sessions. We adopt the “Bring Your Code” hackathon type, where the participants bring code they are using for their research and wish to port or optimize so they can run on ARM CPUs.

The participants had access to the ARM partition of the EuroHPC supercomputer Deucalion.

The materials include the following presentations:

  • Assessing the Performance and Scalability of ARM Processors for Industrial Applications – Gabriel Marcos Magalhães (INESC TEC / PIEP)
  • Installing software in ARM can be EESSI – Kenneth Hoste (Ghent University, Belgium)
  • AI in ARM Architecture – Alícia Oliveira (INESC TEC)
  • HPC Software Portability: x86 to ARM – Bernardo Malaca (CNCA and Deucalion Supercomputer)
  • An introduction to Arm Scalable Vector Extensions – Ricardo A. Fonseca (ISTEC)
  • Fujitsu A64FX Processor Technical presentation – John Wagner (Fujitsu)
  • First access to Deucalion: Compilation, Execution and Profiling – Rui Silva (CNCA and Deucalion Supercomputer)
