Achievements and Impact
LuxProvide’s MeluXina supercomputer, inaugurated in June 2021, has rapidly established itself as a cornerstone of high-performance computing in Europe. In 2021, the Green500 list recognizes MeluXina as the greenest supercomputer in the EU and the fourth worldwide, boasting an energy efficiency of 26.957 gigaflops per watt.
Beyond its impressive rankings, MeluXina has made significant contributions across various scientific domains. In earth observation, it processes vast datasets from satellites and ground-based sensors, enabling rapid analysis crucial for monitoring climate change, managing natural resources, and disaster preparedness. Its integration with artificial intelligence and machine learning enhances predictive analytics, automates pattern recognition, and supports real-time environmental monitoring.
Designed with a modular architecture, MeluXina caters to a diverse range of computational workloads, from intensive modeling and simulation to complex data analytics and AI applications. Unlike many supercomputers primarily dedicated to research, MeluXina is accessible to startups, SMEs, and large enterprises, promoting innovation across sectors. Its operations are powered by green energy from a cogeneration plant utilizing waste wood, aligning with sustainable practices.
Sustainability and Future Outlook
Launched in 2021, MeluXina debuted as the #1 Green500 supercomputer in the EU, and #4 in the world, making it the world’s most energy-efficient at the time. Hosted in a Tier IV-certified, carbon-neutral data center in Bissen, it operates with government-supervised energy efficiency plans, waste heat recovery, 100% hydroelectric power, and optimized free cooling.
Beyond sustainability, LuxProvide ensures data security and sovereignty with ISO 27001 certification and strict local data storage policies. Recognized for innovation, LuxProvide secured two calls in 2024 for quantum and AI computing.
