Overview of the project

HPCW is a set of relevant and realistic, near-operational weather forecast workloads designed to benchmark HPC sites across different hardware and software configurations. The project aimed to deploy and validate the full suite of climate- and weather-representative benchmarks on the MareNostrum 5 GPP and ACC partitions, enabling accurate evaluation of system performance and supporting future cross-architecture studies.

How did EPICURE support the project and what were the benefits of the support?

EPICURE provided technical support for porting the HPCW benchmark suite to both the MN5-GPP and MN5-ACC partitions. This included guidance on the MN5 toolchain, assistance with software deployment and optimization, and support in using performance analysis tools such as EXTRAE. In addition, EPICURE delivered basic profiling information for subset of the codes.

As a result of this collaboration, the HPCW suite was successfully ported and validated on both MN5 architectures. This achievement provides a robust set of climate-representative benchmarks for evaluating HPC platforms and forms a critical foundation for future application characterization, performance analysis, and cross-architecture comparison studies.
