Overview of the project

This project successfully tested and demonstrated an electric propulsion thruster model in a digital twin environment. The main objective was to use high-performance computing (HPC) resources to significantly reduce simulation times and accelerate the development and analysis of electric propulsion systems. By transitioning the simulations from local computing resources to HPC infrastructure, computational times were reduced from several days to several working hours.

How did EPICURE support the project and what were the benefits of the support?

“Our main challenges were related to software installation, configuration and performance optimisation in an HPC environment. As we had limited previous experience with HPC systems, EPICURE supported us in setting up the required software libraries and dependencies, configuring the simulation environment, and identifying appropriate approaches for improving computational performance.

EPICURE support significantly reduced the time required to set up and optimise our simulation environment on HPC infrastructure. Their expertise helped us avoid a lengthy trial-and-error process when installing libraries, configuring the environment and adapting our simulation workflow.

Most importantly, moving the simulations to HPC resources and applying the appropriate optimisations reduced computational times from several days on local computing resources to several working hours. This allows us to perform simulations and design iterations considerably faster and supports more efficient development of electric propulsion systems.”
